Don’t throw that old cell phone away!

Two days. 552 Vehicles. 58,002 pounds.

Those numbers are the results of American Family’s E-waste Recycling Day, which took place at our Madison, Wis., offices at the end of August. AmFam partnered with Cascade Asset Management to properly manage the recycling of computers, TVs, cell phones and other electronics that employees no longer wanted or used.

Starting Sept. 1, 2010, televisions, computers, printers, monitors, DVD players, VCRs, fax machines, cell phones and various other computer peripherals will be BANNED from disposal in landfills in Wisconsin (the 2009 Wisconsin Act 50). No individual (or business) will be legally allowed to throw out these items in the trash. As a result, electronics recycling programs, such as the one AmFam conducted in August, are more important than ever, giving individuals a legal (and responsible) way to dispose of their unwanted electronics. Cascade, our vendor partner for the event, was extremely impressed with the turnout and our employees’ response.

Our E-Waste Recycling Day was a great event and a good example of how American Family is continuously looking for ways to help our employees and our communities.
